Golfing Lessons: Introduction to Golf

Golf is an outdoor sport where individual players use special clubs to propel a small, hard, white ball over a field of play which is usually known as a course or links. The winner of the game is the player who can advance the ball around the course using the fewest strokes.
A golf course is divided into 18 sections which called holes. The size of the standard course is about 6,500 to 7,000 yards (about 5,900 to 6,400 m). There are many different length variations on individual holes from 100-600 yards (about 90 to 550 m). The cup in golf is usually made of metal or plastic, 10.8 cm in diameter, and at least 10 cm deep.
In this game, there are two main types of shot. They are the drive which is a long shot from the tee onto the fairway and the approach meaning a shot used to hit the ball into the green. Each shot required different kind of clubs. Normally a standard set of golf club consists of 14 clubs since it is the maximum number that one player may carry in a tournament. In golf, there are two basic competitions which are match play and medal play. The most popular competitions on golf are the Masters, the U.S Open, the British Open, and the PGA Championship. There are also some rules a golf player should obey. A player has to pay attention at the notices that are given by the officials of a tournament. He should also make sure that he has used the correct handicap of his own. He should remember about his starting time and get to the game at the time. Well, in case that another player is using the same kind of ball with him, he should put a mark on his own so he can easily recognize which one that belongs to him tight away. By following the certain rules, a player could eventually gain the better way of playing golf.
